"I CONSIDER MYSELF A DRAWER FIRST AND AN ARTIST SECOND BECAUSE BEFORE I KNEW WHAT IT MEANT TO BE AN ARTIST, I WAS DRAWING....
The primary medium of my artwork is drawing, preferably pencil. With that, the work I create focuses on self-identity and self-expression. Conceptually I derive from my personal life experiences and practices. I try to visually show my opinions of social aspects that personally affect me or members of my community. Aspects such as those that occur within race, gender, or psychological hardships we may face. The human experience is why my artwork is mainly figurative. Portraiture is a specific common element because in my opinion the face is the key to communication. Outside of portraiture, my work is still emotionally charged or directly relates to human imagery. Either way, it is important that my artwork show the marks I make in this world and the marks this world makes on me."
